Background
The Termini hub is the main junction of the Rome subway system, an interchange point between lines A and B, and represents a crucial piece of infrastructure for urban mobility in the capital. Cefla's intervention is part of a wider project to modernise and upgrade the hub, aimed at improving accessibility, safety and efficiency of the service.
The hub is spread over four separate underground levels and handles around 200,000 passengers per day. For this reason, the internal structures have deteriorated significantly over the years.
Challenges
- Coordination in an operational environment
Carry out work without interrupting the underground service, ensuring safety and minimal disruption for passengers.
- Technological integration
Implement advanced plant systems in an existing structure, ensuring compatibility and optimal performance.
- Accessibility and safety
Eliminate architectural barriers and improve evacuation conditions in case of emergency.
Project Tasks
Cefla carried out:
- Mechanical systems: water, fire prevention, ventilation.
- Upgrading of the underground hub, improving efficiency and safety.
- Complete renovation of the Termini hub, including modernisation of the systems and removal of architectural barriers.
Implementation
The project was completed on time and within budget, ensuring the delivery of a modernised infrastructure that meets the required safety and efficiency standards. Termini station is now an example of urban regeneration, symbolising the evolution and improvement of mobility in the capital.
Cefla carried out the general renovation, with special focus on safety aspects and the following systems: Intrusion detection, Fire-fighting water systems, Drainage, Emergency lighting, Translation, Sound diffusion, Telephone and emergency systems in tunnels (existing only on line “A”), Passenger assistance, CCTV, Turnstiles, Clocks, Power supply, Lighting.
