Poste Italiane's new data centre has been designed to meet Level IV TIER certification, according to the UpTime Institute.

Use of rotary UPS with integrated diesel:

Uninterruptible power supplies used in strategic areas because they ensure absolute continuity of operation of all devices in the event of even very brief interruptions in the power supply.

Background

The complexity of the project, in addition to the size of the systems, was mainly due to the type of building, which dates back to the 1970s. Among other things, it was also necessary to adapt some areas of the building that were previously used as a garage and for other purposes.

 

The Data Centre was built with the aim of consolidating all of Poste Italiane's data processing centres scattered across various locations throughout the country.

Implementation

Complete construction of the new centralised data centre for Poste Italiane:

  • diesel fuel tanks and generator sets with associated smoke extraction systems were installed on the third basement level.
  • Data centre and electrical room area with new internal layout; system chimney up to the 13th floor;
  • new cooling plant on the second basement level, with dry coolers located on the 13th floor.
