Cefla has designed an innovative Energy Hub in close collaboration with the customer, capable of managing different energy sources in an integrated manner.
Strengths
Integrated and customised project
Optimisation of the site's electricity consumption and heat and cooling generation, bringing the project to a structured level with a 360° vision.
Complete energy solution
The hub includes a trigeneration plant, thermal power plants for compressed air and water, as well as the expansion of an ammonia refrigeration plant and the construction of a biogas production plant from processing waste and process water purification.
Sustainability and innovation
The project aims to maximise energy efficiency and reduce environmental impact, supporting Pizzoli's ambitious sustainable development plans.
Key Numbers
18 hectares
Surface area of the new production hub
Background
To ensure efficient and sustainable energy supply, Pizzoli has chosen Cefla as its partner for the construction of the new Energy Hub.
Challenges
- Integrated design
Develop an energy system that meets the plant's various production needs while ensuring efficiency and sustainability.
- Waste management
Implement solutions for energy recovery from processing waste and for the purification of process water.
Project Tasks
Cefla oversaw the design, construction and future maintenance of the Energy Hub, which includes:
- trigeneration plant
- steam heating plant
- compressed air production plant
- water purification plant
- REMI cabin for methane gas
- expansion of an ammonia refrigeration plant
Implementation
The project was carried out by setting KPIs together with the customer to ensure that the plants were efficient, resilient and in line with the production cost parameters of the finished product. As a benchmark set for the project works, the competitors in Northern Europe were used, which have very low production costs.
A contingency plan was subsequently added to the project: the global scenario led to a significant increase in energy costs, as well as the possibility of a limited supply of methane gas, the driving force behind energy-intensive companies.
Cefla mitigated this problem by installing a biogas production plant in the production facility, which is used directly for steam production, ensuring continuity of service in the event of a reduction in the supply of natural gas and further improving efficiency and sustainability by up to 30% in Pizzoli.
Cefla managed the plant engineering design and construction tasks, but that's not all: it also secured a multi-year contract for the operation and maintenance of the energy systems.
The project is an example of effective collaboration between two Italian companies, with Cefla providing its expertise to create a state-of-the-art energy infrastructure in line with Pizzoli's sustainable growth objectives.
