Industrial competitiveness and energy transition

Working table on "The role of cogeneration and biomethane for the country system."

OnTuesday, September 30, 2025 at theTEHA GroupOfficesin Milan, a panel discussion"Industrial Competitiveness and Energy Transition: the Role of Cogeneration and Biomethane for the Country System" will be held in which Cefla is a partner.

Industrial competitiveness is increasingly influenced by two determining factors: on the one hand, energy costs and their variability, which are often 4-5 times higher than those of major international competitors, and on the other hand, regulatory costs related to emissions.

This situation is made more complex by the difficulty of considering CHP as a key technology. CHP can reduce energy costs and improve operational efficiency, but natural gas consumption has a negative impact on sustainability profiles. In addition, regulatory principles such as "Do No Significant Harm" limit the ability to obtain support for these investments.

Despite the growing national interest in biomethane development and the industry's willingness to invest in new plants, only about half of the eligible projects according to the ranking list of the fifth auction are financed through PNRR funds. This situation allows only the most proactive companies to set up new energy supply models, contributing to derisking, improving their sustainability and ensuring greater competitiveness in the market.

So, access to these opportunities is limited to the companies that will be most proactive in the coming months, creating new supply chain relationships and making the most of the opportunities offered by biomethane.

The Working Table will be dedicated to identifying concrete solutions to address these issues and foster dialogue between companies, institutions and supply chain operators to define best practices and possible paths forward.

We will also discuss the opportunities that biomethane and cogeneration can offer Italian companies, turning challenges into opportunities for growth and innovation. In addition, the Working Table will be an important networking opportunity through which to establish relationships between the industrial, energy and biomethane supply chain.

Moderator: Alessandro Viviani (Associate Partner, TEHA Group).

Other speakers: Nicola Pizzoli of Pizzoli S.p.A., Fabio Leonardi of Igor Gorgonzola, and Enrico Fastelli of Visa Cash App RB F1 Team.
