Background
GIAS is an Italian company specialising in the production of frozen foods. The Mongrassano Scalo (CS) plant is an important production facility in the food sector, with a focus on quality and innovation.
The plant is designed to be highly efficient, up to over 85% more than to natural gas plants, thanks to the electrical efficiency of the engine and the complete recovery of cogenerated thermal energy, which allows it to be classified as High Efficiency Cogeneration.
Challenges
- Integration with existing processes
Adapting the trigeneration plant to GIAS's specific production requirements, ensuring operational continuity. - Energy optimisation
Maximising plant efficiency to achieve the best results in terms of energy savings and emissions reduction.
Project Tasks
Cefla handled the design, supply and installation of the trigeneration plant, ensuring full integration with GIAS's existing infrastructure. The project included the implementation of advanced control systems to monitor and optimise plant performance.
Implementation
Cefla supported Gias from the energy analysis phase to the economic feasibility study, identifying the most suitable plant solution. The project involved the turnkey construction of a trigeneration plant consisting of a 2 MWe natural gas cogeneration module, an energy recovery system and an ammonia absorber for the production of cooling energy for the -40 °C freezing circuit. The plant, pre-assembled and soundproofed for outdoor installation, is integrated with the existing electrical and thermal network and all the necessary interfaces.
Cefla's design guarantees:
- Easy configuration
- Reliability and safety of components
- Easy maintenance and operational management
The project has improved the energy efficiency and reduced the environmental impact of the GIAS plant. Its sizing (2 MW electric, 242 kW refrigeration, hot water) allows for maximum efficiency and significant cost reductions. Cefla's proposal ensured:
- A system tailored to GIAS's needs
- Perfect integration between systems
- A single interface, including for after-sales, through a maintenance contract for comprehensive and continuous service.
