CEFLA has recently completedthe revamping of the CHP power plant of Tecnoparco Valbasento, a company that provides energy (electricity and heat) and environmental services (water and wastewater treatment, technical gas, etc.) to the production and tertiary activities located in the industrial hub of Pisticci (Matera).

The intervention is an integral part of the routine and extraordinary maintenance service, which CEFLA has been carrying out continuously since 2008, and meets a twofold need: to provide 20 MW of electrical power, for capacity market development , and to improve efficiencies and sustainability of the industrial hub.

The intervention was designed and implemented by CEFLA in close collaboration with Tecnopolo Valbasento, using technologically advanced solutions oriented toenergy efficiency, in compliance with the strictest quality, technical and environmental standards.

The 4 pre-existing motors were replaced by 3 new high-efficiency (electrical efficiency 48.9%), methane-fueledmotogenerator units, with a total capacity of 23.4 MW. The renovated CHP plant was completed with the installation of new:

  • heat recovery system that, using the existing collector, feeds 3 new boilers for the production of superheated steam at 271 °C (9 t/h total) used in the industrial hub.

  • evaporation tower (8 modules of 2,335 kWt) for cooling the motogenerators;

  • SCR (Selective Catalytic Reduction)system for the containment of atmospheric emissions.

Assuming operation of the CHP plant for 8,000 hours per year, the reduction in climate-changing emissions is estimated at 14,400 tCO2 per year. CEFLA continues its routine maintenance activities, entrusted with advanced systems for preventive, corrective and predictive maintenance such as CMMS.
